Half-Marathon Performance Training Group
With coach Anna Heintz, the Eugene Running Company, and Happy Running, LLC
Who? Athletes training for the Corvallis Half-Marathon on April 15th or the Eugene Half-Marathon on April 29th are welcome to join!
What? Performance training targets the specific pace you are trying to achieve in your race. The program balances hard workouts and recovery for maximum performance. Each athlete will receive a personalized training program that will help you reach your specific half-marathon goal. Athletes will meet 3x per week to work together on pace and endurance.
• 7:30 AM Saturday morning long runs- meet primarily at the Eugene Running Company, but also other locations around Eugene
• 6:00 AM Tuesday morning tempo runs- meet at various locations around Eugene.
• 6:00 PM Thursday evening speed sessions- meet at various locations around Eugene
Where? When? Training begins Saturday Jan. 28th, 2012. We will meet the Eugene Running Company at 7:30 AM. Be prepared to run 7 miles the first day.
Why? Are you sick of mediocre race results? Get ready to…
•Train with people at your pace with similar goals •PR in your next half-marathon •Get fitter by training harder •Qualify for the NYC Marathon with a half-marathon time
How much? $150. Why more than the average marathon group? Because with this group you get one-on-one coaching 3x/week, a personalized training program to follow, and the group meets at various locations, rather than only at the Eugene Running Company. It’s something new through the Eugene Running Company and a rare chance to get personal coaching through Happy Running, LLC. (Ask Anna about UO student discounts.)
Anything else? As always, team members will get a team tech-shirt and 10% member discounts at the Eugene Running Company. This group is for runners who can currently run a 2:15 half-marathon or under and want to train to achieve a faster time. For those looking to run their first half-marathon, please contact the Eugene Running Company Marathon/ Half-Marathon Team.
How do I join? To find out more information on the training group or to join, contact Anna Heintz at happyrunningcoach@gmail.com
What’s my NYC marathon qualifying standard? The qualifying time for the NYC Marathon guaranteed entry is changing. The charts below depict the NYC Marathon guaranteed entry qualifying standards for the 2013 race (half marathon qualifying times for the new standards must be run between Jan. 1, 2012-Jan. 31, 2013).

Whether you’re a first-time beginner or an experienced marathoner, it’s generally more fun and more effective to join the camaraderie of others and receive expert coaching for your journey of personal achievement.
About our coaches:
Jil Mestler (pictured here) is a busy mother with three beautiful children and still has the time and energy to run a sub-three-hour marathon. She enjoyed a successful collegiate career at the University of Oregon where she earned her bachelors degree in Exercise and Movement Science. She also holds a Masters Degree in Human Biology from Pacific University.
Laura LaMena-Coll is a retired international class long-distance runner. She represented the USA seventeen times as a member of the National Team, including the World Cross Country Championships, World Cup of Track & Field, IAAF World Championship Road Race and Pan American Games. Runner’s World magazine ranked her among America’s top ten road racers in the early 1990s. She ran her marathon personal best of 2:39:37 at the 1991 International Women’s Marathon in Nagoya, Japan. Laura is an owner of the Eugene Running Company.
The details: The team runs from the store starting at 7am every Saturday morning until the race. All paces and levels of experience are welcome. The cost is $100. Every team member receives a team uniform shirt, coaching, camaraderie and encouragement. We want you to be part of the fun! Joe Henderson's Marathon Team Sunday 8:00 am
Training for a long race goes better if you run with a group that shares your goal and a coach who has helped runners reach it before. You set the goal, and we provide the group support and coaching advice for carrying out a proven training plan.
Our latest program focuses on the Eugene Marathon. This is the 18th round of Joe Team, which the Eugene Running Company has sponsored since its launch in 2005. More than 300 runners have successfully completed this program, with a 99%-plus finish rate.
The Team meets at the Running Company on Sunday mornings at 8:00 A.M. Our four months of marathon training together begin in early January. The fee for this program is $100. We offer training only for the marathon, not the half, in this winter/spring cycle. A “half” programs will be available for summer and fall races such as Coburg and Run to Stay Warm.
We welcome runners of all abilities and experience levels. However, we strongly recommend that you have run at least six miles before this training begins. Eugene Running Company group training on Sundays and Mondays can help you build toward our starting distance. To reserve a spot on this team, which is limited to 40 runners, contact the coach: joe@joehenderson.com.
